Exhibit: "SHATTERING OF THE VESSELS, GATHERING OF THE SPARKS..." by Wendy A. Rabinowitz

This series of Judaic artworks are my one-of-a-kind sculptual weaving/mixed-media assemblages based on the Creation myth in the Jewish mystical (Kabbalah) tradition. The cosmological mystery that these artworks seek to explore and express refers to G-ds contraction ( Heb. 'tzimtzum' ) in order to make space for the Creation of the World. After that process was completed, G-d sent forth vessels of primordial light that shattered and scattered their holy fragments all over the universe. It is said that we must seek out and raise up this light so that the broken vessels can be made whole and the world thereby becoming more harmonious.  It is our involvement in this ongoing process through our good deeds ( Heb. 'mitzvahs' )  and creative acts in co-creation with G-d that then the sparks are gathered and repair or mending ( Heb. 'tikun olam' ) of the world takes place.
