"AND DEATH IS A SACRED RETURN...

A one-of-a-kind weaving/mixed-media assemblage, 32"L x 26"H x 3"D, made of silk, wool and metallic fibers; abalone, Hebrew of gold filigree; silver and gold Magen David. In Judaism, death itself is viewed as part of Creation. At death, it is said that all people have the vision of the Divinr Presence, the Shekinah. While the anniversary of someone's death, the yahrzeit (Heb.) is a sad occasion, the mystical tradition celebrates it as the soul's wedding with G-d. This artwork was created in memory of my best friend, Joy Hopkins-Hausman, may she rest-in-peace; and my younger daughter Joanna's best friend, Emily Reid O'Conner, may she rest in peace. I have adapeted a text from Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel: "Just to be is a blessing, just to live is holy, [and death is a sacred return...]"
