WHAT IS ABOVE IS BELOW

The tree marks the ultimate between the divinity above and the material below. It has flourished as the central symbol for life and transcendence in Jewish tradition. This one-of-a-kind assemblage by Wendy A. Rabinowitz is based on a concept found in The Zohar, the mystical Jewish Kabbalistic "Book of Splendor". The Hebrew translates: "And for everything that is above, /there is an example below;/ and for everything that is below, there is an example in the sea,/ and all is One." This artwork is made of mohair, silk and metallic woven fibers on papyrus on handmade papers on copper on redwood with Hebrew lettering and abalone, ceramic, stone,beads,Star of David, glass, birds and cloth.
